The Fall of Chronos Prime

Millennia ago, the city of Chronos
Unsurpassed in its glory and fame
Held all that a mortal could ask for
And put the rest of the world to shame

Riches and luxury everyone had
Naught was missed in the city so fair
Its people indulged the ultimate leisure
While outside, the world despaired

The city of Chronos in all its prestige
So automated and carefree
Never stirred to aid the Outside
'After all,' they thought, 'it’s not me.'

And high above of the city grand
The ruler of Chronos did reside
And spent her days gazing upon the land
Not even her beauty transcended her pride

Then one day, a jackal appeared
And said to her, "This city will fall."
She blinked and laughed at such a jest
Replying, "You know Chronos not at all."

But it said, "This city of sin is a stain on the world
For all its glory and fame
It's people care naught for any but themselves,
And puts the world to shame."

The pretentious woman tossed her hair
Proclaiming, "We are the rulers of all!"
Challenging the jackal with a contemptuous stare,
She asked, "What makes you think we should fall?"

It replied, "Foolish child, naught is eternal,
And sinners shall pay for their crimes."
As it gazed down at the vast city below,
It said, "Behold, the dusk of your time."

Impossible clouds of violet and black
Swirled in the darkening sky
Over the city, now bathed in shadow
And it became clear their end was nigh

In her fury, she struck at the jackal
Only to become one of its prey
And as she died she heard it hiss,
"This is your Judgment Day."

Millennia later, the Shadowdawn
As the calamity was so named
Remains forgotten by nearly all
Of this present day and age

Such was the fall of Chronos Prime
Its legacy heeded by few
Be swift and banish your apathy, mortal
Lest Shadowdawn return for you
