This applies to all forms of writing and everyone out there who wants to half-ass their work in whatever way. Seriously, those people make life painful, and not just for English teachers and their pets. Nothing bothers me more than written work that looks like it came out of a <some language> to English translator. You want someone to proofread a paper for you? Make their life easier by doing your own proofing before you hand it to them. Use spell check and grammar check responsibly. Neither feature is foolproof. You will make lives easier. Don't forget to tell the person what direction your paper is supposed to be headed in, just in case.
Then there is my contempt for the genre based almost entirely on the Internetz: fanfiction. That is, poor fanfiction. Self-insertion is BAD. Mary/Gary Sue/Stu is BAD. Inserting inappropriate romaji (i.e. REEH?! She's so KOWAII!) into your English fanfiction is a CRIME punishable by DEATH (at least, I will strive to make it that way). I wish more people would respect a character's (or a real person's--!)original sexual orientation. What is it with making everyone gay or lesbian? Or ' pairings' with four or five people? I'm not even going to touch crossovers. Too many people out there wouldn't know ' plausible' if it slapped them in the face and then set their lovely fanfiction on fire.
There is role playing too, but this rant is getting too long.
So now I have a stamp, the product of my general contempt for poor writing, whether it's horrid grammar or immature content. Whee.
06.24.08 Edit: Changed the background from navy to green. Thought it was more appropriate.
Although I disagree with many (almost all) of your points, there is one I agree with - the inappropriate romaji. Nothing irks me more. So I favorite this.

People make way too big a deal out of fan characters and such. It's not BAD, like you say it is. It CAN be bad, but not ALL of it is.
And before you say, I'm not some weeaboo fangirl, I'm not an idiot, I'm certainly not a bad writer, and I'm not going to cuss you out for lack of a better argument. I'm a (semi)normal, intelligent person, and *gasp* I actually sometimes like Fan-Characters. We do exist.

I think what she means is the author putting themselves into the fanfiction, having super powers and getting their man (or woman). Characters that are original, but don't outshine the 'main character' or easily win over anybody are fine.
QQ Defensive. I don't even know you, and if I tried to judge you it would turn out very poorly. The fact that you didn't start out flaming me is good enough. ^^
The target of my contempt isn't OCs/fan characters in general, but the ones that define... bad. How to put it... @@ the ones where a person can read the character and say with certainty, "The author just basically put herself in the story with a name change, perfect body and tricked out abilities." Or the ones that are so tricked out they're utterly unbelievable. The ones that are usually written by thirteen year olds (or so you would think) and are Mary Sues and not much else, although that might be a little redundant.
As for myself, I don't upload the little writing I do, but all I have are OCs. I have never been able to write other established characters very well; my talent lies more in editing. All of them are based on some aspect of me. It's fun to see who I can turn them into.
<,<; I can't say I'm very normal though.

==; I've never come across someone who considers 'self-insertion' and 'OC' to be synonymous... o,o Though it does make sense when I think about it. I should keep this in mind for when I rant next. XD Ehehehe.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
In this article I'll talk about establishing a process of working on art that will help you turn out much better work without as much struggling or confusion.

But it is agreeable that there CAN be well-written ones, is it not?
